We live in a world where the various energy sources we use transform and shift, automating our world and solidifying into objects of convenience we are quick to discard. The objects of our lives slip constantly in abstract hierarchies of importance and meaning. The history of what is made is more important now than ever. Where did the cotton for the shirts we wear come from? How many gallons of water were used in their production? Are the dyes toxic? Will it be trendy next year? The fast and easy energy of fossil fuels is reflected in the carelessness of our material culture.
